Eurozone Annual Consumer Inflation Holds Steady at 2.1 Percent

(MENAFN) Price pressures across the currency bloc remained unchanged in November at 2.1% annually, holding steady from October's rate, finalized statistics from Eurostat disclosed Wednesday.

The confirmed figure fell short of Eurostat's initial projection of 2.2%, yet continued hovering above the European Central Bank's (ECB) official 2% medium-term inflation objective.

Service sector costs emerged as the dominant inflationary force during the month, accelerating 3.5% from year-earlier levels, with food, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco products climbing 2.4%, while non-energy manufactured goods edged up a modest 0.5%.

Energy costs provided the primary deflationary offset, contracting 0.5% on an annual basis—though the decline represented a slowdown from October's 0.9% year-over-year drop.

Core inflation—a closely watched metric that strips out unpredictable food and energy components—advanced 2.4% annually, unchanged from the prior month and aligned precisely with preliminary calculations.

Romania posted the steepest consumer price growth at 8.6%, trailed by Estonia at 4.7% and Croatia at 4.3%.

The mildest inflation rate appeared in the Greek Cypriot Administration at 0.1%, with France recording 0.8% and Italy at 1.1%.

Month-to-month comparisons showed the consumer price index retreating 0.3%, a reversal from the 0.2% increase observed in October.

The eurozone—alternatively termed the euro area or EA20—comprises the 20 EU member nations that have adopted the euro as their legal tender.
